Christmas Show.jpg

This December, Hard Bargain Players is bringing A Laura Ingalls Wilder Christmas to the stage — and we're looking for actors to help us tell this story!

Set in Burr Oak, Iowa, during the winter of 1876, the play follows the Ingalls family through one of the most challenging chapters of their lives. It's a story of family, resilience, growing up, hope, and finding a little Christmas joy even during difficult times

🌲 MEET SOME OF THE CHARACTERS 🌲

🌲 LAURA INGALLS — approximately 9–14 Spirited, curious, imaginative and determined. Laura is at the heart of our story — adventurous, sometimes impulsive, and trying to understand the changing world around her.

🌲 MARY INGALLS — approximately 11–16 Laura's older sister. Thoughtful, responsible and mature, with all the love, frustration and rivalry you'd expect between sisters.

🌲 CARRIE INGALLS — approximately 5–10 The youngest Ingalls sister, bringing innocence, sweetness and humor to the family.

🌲 CAROLINE "MA" INGALLS — adult, approximately 30s–40s Warm, practical, loving and strong. Ma works to hold her family together through grief, uncertainty and another new beginning.

🌲 CHARLES "PA" INGALLS — adult, approximately 30s–40s Hardworking, optimistic and devoted to his family. Even when times are difficult, Pa believes they'll find a way forward.

🌲 JOHNNY STEADMAN — approximately 9–15 A young boy Laura meets in Burr Oak who becomes an important part of her world. Johnny brings another youthful personality into the story and gives us a glimpse of Laura's life beyond the Ingalls family.

🌲MRS. STARR — adult, approximately 30s–70s A woman Laura encounters during the family's time in Burr Oak. Her interest in Laura creates an important and emotional moment for the Ingalls family.

Age ranges are approximate/playing ages — you don't have to fall exactly within the range to  audition!

🎭 WHAT SHOULD I PREPARE?

Nothing! Auditions will consist of cold readings from the script. We'll provide the material when you arrive — no prepared monologue is necessary, and if you've never auditioned before, that's absolutely okay. If you've been thinking about trying community theatre, come give it a try. You don't need to have performed with HBP before, and you don't need to know which character you might be right for. Come in, read with us and have some fun! Experienced actors, newcomers and familiar HBP faces are all welcome.
